PT: Dentro de alguns meses irei viajar para Itália e embarcar na minha primeira experiência de Serviço Voluntário Europeu (SVE). Aqui no blog vão puder acompanhar esta minha nova aventura, que começa, antes de ir, com aquilo que eu espero do SVE.
EN: In a few months I'll be traveling to Italy to embark on my first experience of European Voluntary Service (EVS). Here on the blog you can follow my new adventure, which begins with what I expect from EVS.
1- Isto é um bocado óbvio. Conhecer outro país, outra cultura, outra língua. E não foi à toa que me candidatei para Itália, pois quis que da minha experiência de dar pudesse também receber logo algo em troca. Para mim isto será uma vantagem. Itália é um país que queria há muito conhecer, por isso é mais uma motivação que tenho como voluntário.
This is a bit obvious. I expect to know another country, another culture, another language. It wasn't for nothing that I applied to Italy, because I wanted to, from my experience, receive something in return. For me this will be an advantage. Italy is a country that I wanted to know for long, so it's an extra motivation that I have as a volunteer.
2- Aprender novas línguas. E não me refiro apenas ao italiano, mas também a línguas de outros países da Europa, pois vou estar em contacto também com outros jovens voluntários. Na prática isto vai enriquecer o meu curriculum.
Learn new languages. And I mean not only italian but also the languages of other European countries, as I will be in contact also with other young volunteers from all over Europe. In practice this will enrich my curriculum.
3- Dar tudo o que sei. Vou trabalhar com crianças que certamente precisam muito do meu apoio e sei que tenho muito para contruibuir através da educação informal. O meu objectivo é regressar de lá com a sensação de que lhes transmiti todos os ensinamentos possíveis, enquanto eu próprio aprendo algo também com eles.
To give everything I know. I will work with children who certainly need a lot of my support and I know I have a lot to contribute through informal education. My goal is to return home with the feeling that I gave them all the possible lessons, while I also learn something back too.
4 - Tenho que ser realista e dizer que já sei que vou sentir muitas saudades de casa, da família, dos amigos. Afinal vão ser 10 meses longe daqui. Mas espero também que isso me dê força para dar o melhor de mim enquanto estiver lá. Obviamente que espero também fazer novos amigos, de forma a não me sentir sozinho. E acho que isso não vai ser nada difícil.
I have to be realistic and say that I know I'll miss home, my family, my friends. After all it's going to be 10 months away from here. But I also hope that this will give me strength to do my best while there. Obviously I also hope to make new friends, so I don't feel alone. And I think this will not be difficult.
5 - Espero ter novas oportunidades depois deste primeiro SVE, seja a nível de trabalho ou mesmo de outros tipos de voluntariado. Acima de tudo, espero sentir-me mais humano, mais preparado para novos desafios e com um currículo muito mais experiente e versátil depois de toda esta experiência que, mesmo sem ainda a ter vivido, já sei que será um momento completamente diferente e entusiasmante na minha vida.
I hope to have new opportunities after this first EVS, either at work or even at other types of volunteering. Above all, I hope to feel more human, more prepared for new challenges and with a much more experienced and versatile resume after this whole experience that I know will be a completely different and exciting moment in my life.
